Biographie
Isa Hendrikx is a linguist and lecturer at the Université de Liège, specializing in French-Dutch translation and second language acquisition. She earned her PhD at the Université catholique de Louvain, where she contributed to a multidisciplinary project on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in French-speaking Belgium. This large-scale study, carried out in collaboration with UNamur, followed nearly 1,000 pupils across 22 schools. The project's findings were presented at the Belgian Parliament and received wide media coverage. In her doctoral thesis (2019), Hendrikx examined the acquisition of intensifying constructions in Dutch and English by French-speaking learners.
Since then, she has developed an interest in corpus-based translation studies. With funding from the Conseil Sectoriel de la Recherche et de la Valorisation en Sciences Humaines (CSRV-SH), she was able to collect new corpus material and, together with her colleagues, investigate the translation of compounds and multi-word expressions. She is currently collaborating with An Van linden (PI of the project) and other colleagues on the SPACEGRAM project: Grammar from Space: How spatial elements become applicatives. Hendrikx also continues her work in contrastive linguistics, and learner corpus research, applying the recent theoretical framework of Diasystematic Construction Grammar to Second Language Acquisition.
Finally, she integrates her research into her teaching by offering students hands-on experience in corpus linguistics and contrastive linguistics. Her courses combine theoretical instruction with practical applications, including real-world translation projects such as the Parcours Simenon. Her students also contribute to translation initiatives like Le P'TI Journal.
